Whether you're still dreaming of sharing your story with others, in the process of polishing your manuscript to send to an agent, or ready to self-publish, you want to present the best possible version of your work. This is where I come in.
Structural/Developmental Editing
Having trouble getting started? Not sure how to map out your chapters? Have a finished 1st draft that just doesn't flow? I can help with that. Structural editing looks at the big picture and helps establish a natural flow from start to finish.
Copy Editing
Copy editing is the nuts and bolts of the editing process. Here, we look at punctuation and grammar, and the fact that "very" appears 957 times in your manuscript. At this stage, every word must pull its weight, so we search for opportunities to use more impactful words and phrases that maintain your style and voice.
Line Editing
Line edits include fixing factual errors, inconsistencies, repetition, etc. At this stage, I'm looking for clarity: Does the story make sense? Have you established a timeline that the reader can easily follow? Is it obvious who is speaking throughout an entire page of dialogue?
Proofreading
The final phase: The polishing of your diamond. Proofreading puts the shine on your piece just before it goes out into the world. This is the last chance for the t-crossing and i-dotting. At least two people (besides yourself) should proofread your manuscript.
